The football
stadium at Yosemite High School
sports a new concrete "Y"
thanks to a cooperative effort
between students and local
businesses. The YHS
environmental and spacial
technology (EAST) class did the
design work in what teacher Bob
Collins calls a multiyear
effort. They asked the regional
occupational program
construction class to assist
with the project.
Students in that
class built the forms and
prepared the "Y" for the
pouring of the concrete. The
concrete was donated by Curtis
Lovett of Outback Materials.
Steve O'Reilly donated the
equipment and time to pump the
cement into form.
Students and
teachers Collins and Dave
Dooman worked an entire day in
June to assist with the pouring
and to finish the cement. "The
kids did a great job," Collins
said.
Next year, EAST
students hope to partner with
students from the school's
agriculture department to
beautify the area.
