Yosemite High Freshman Football

By Matt Haynes Freshmen Football Coach

The Yosemite Freshman Football team has a 1-1 record going into this week's game against Sunnyside.  Yosemite beat San Joaquin Memorial 20-7 in it's opening game.  Bobby Woolsey scored on a 40 yard run, Yosemite's first play.  The game settled into a defensive battle until Robin Pedranti intercepted a pass and ran it back for a touchdown.  Johnny Dew recovered a fumble and ran in for a touchdown on San Joaquin Memorial's next possession.  A pass from Harley Glines to Ron Williams gave Yosemite a 2 point conversion.  San Joaquin Memorial scored in the 4th quarter, when Tyler Clayton was stripped of the ball after a bad snap from center.  Nathan Wilson made a touchdown saving tackle on San Joaquin Memorial's next possession.  Jesse Newitt intercepted a pass to secure the game for the Yosemite Freshmen.

The Yosemite Freshmen Football team lost a tough battle against Hanford last week at badger stadium.  The Hanford Bullpups scored on their first play from scrimmage.  The Hanford quarterback looked like he was going to be sacked for a big loss, but he escaped and eluded tacklers for an 85 yard run for the touchdown.  Hanford scored again on a 40 yard run, and led 14-0 at halftime.  Yosemite scored on a pitch from Harley Glines to Nick Garrett.  Joseph Lopez's PAT kick was good.  Yosemite scored again on a pitch from Glines and a 7 yard run by Bobby Woolsey.  Lopez's PAT kick was stopped by a bad snap from center.  Trailing 13-14, Yosemite recovered a Hanford fumble late in the 4th quarter.  Yosemite moved to the Hanford 23, but could not pick up the first down to keep the drive alive.  The Yosemite freshmen played without Johnny Dew, who was moved up to the JV team.  Also, Kurt Hanft, a starting tackle and team captain, injured his right ankle early in the game.
