It's been a successful school year for YHS seniors

"No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave."~ Calvin Coolidge
Yosemite High School's class of 2008 leaves the school as all of the preceding classes have, with a trunk load of press clippings and memories, both good and not so good.
The 105 seniors, 63 boys and 42 girls, competed in 21 varsity sports and in more than 450 games, meets and matches. They captured nine league championships and one valley crown, (boys golf), and the girls cross country and basketball teams both finished second in the Central Valley championships.
Yosemite also retained possession of the Ginsburg Award for athletic excellence in league competition. That is the fourth consecutive year the school has done that and the 13th time in 24 years in the NSL.
Although some sports did not win the crown jewel in their seasons this year, they all had memorable contests.
The 2007 Badgers football team was disappointed that it did not win the league title, but it did retain the Mountain Bowl trophy. And in a game that validated Yosemite's case for receiving a lowly No. 14 seed in the 15-team, Division II playoffs, the Badgers used a 28-point second half to crush the No. 3 seed Sunnyside.
The girls volleyball team ran the table in the NSL in the 2007 season, winning all 12 league games, but lost a heartbreaker to Tehachapi in the playoff semifinals.
The girls cross country team, with seniors Krista Elliott and Julianne Warmerdam, won its 18th league title in 24 years and finished second in the CIF Section Finals, sending seven runners to the state championships.
The swimming and diving teams demolished record after record with seniors Daniel Tennant, Blaine Salisbury and Kari Lauterbach establishing legacies that will be hard to overcome...but someone eventually will. The boys and girls track teams ran roughshod over the competition in winning league titles and third in the Sierra Sequoia Division Championships.
The 1,100 student body produced 47 all North Sequoia League athletes and many of those were underclassmen who will take up the gauntlet thrown down by the class of 2008.
So the Badgers' roar will be heard once again during the 2008-09 school year.
